But Why Think? Why Not Try the
Experiment?
Years of wondering ‘What if…?’ and a year of planning finally came to fruition with the installation of 25 sculptures by 18 local members of the Cotswold Sculptors Association at Dr Jenner’s House, Church Lane, Berkeley, GL13 9BN.
Organisier and member of the CSA, Lynda Knott said,”My local museum, is very close to my heart, having been either an education volunteer or a trustee since I left my life as a research scientist 15 years ago. Edward Jenner had an amazing, enquiring mind, and many interests aside from his globally important work on Smallpox and the first ever vaccine. Not just science based but creatively with music, poetry and gardening”.
Lynda was once a scientist and now an artist has always thought Edward Jenner and the atmospheric museum and garden could provide a wealth of inspiration to fellow artists and was over the moon to find the museum to be equally enthusiastic!
So, taking an exhortation to Jenner by the famous surgeon John Hunter to ‘Why Think? Why not try the Experiment’ they invited sculptors to be inspired by Jenner, to experiment and to challenge themselves.
The resulting exhibition has exceeded all expectations! The sculptors have taken inspiration from all different aspects of Jenner’s interests which will start conversations and spark curiosity.
There was a fantastic team of exhibiting artists helping Lynda to bring this all together: @ange.williams.artist @shirleysharpclash @claremahoneyceramics @concretesuperhero @jcbclay @julibharucha
