I have needed to make 3D things since childhood, encouraged by my father who would always let me help with his various DIY projects.  I do not have a formal art training but discovered clay at evening classes some 30 years ago when I was fascinated by the throwing process – giving volume and shape to something that minutes ago did not exist.  Although most of my work is now handbuilt, that fascination is still with me.  Clay is such a versatile and addictive medium, constantly presenting challenges, both technical and aesthetic.  I really enjoy the rhythm of handbuilding, finding something almost meditative in the process of considering line and balance within a form.

Ideas for sculptural designs arise from my love of plants, landscapes and textures, although I do not make directly representational pieces. If a viewer responds to my work by reaching out to touch it, I count that as a success.
