Orli Ivanov

Orli’s work explores universal themes that arise within the human experience, as well as her participation and interpretation of them.

Keepingthe relationship between the universal and personal dynamic, the work changes seamlessly from conceptual to autobiographical whilst maintaining curiosity and playfulness. Process and material are central to Orli’s approach to art making. She works predominentlywith ceramic materials due to their varied characteristic nature, which allows for an intricate and deeply meticulous exploartion.

Earthy textured terracotta, black velvety clay and the translucency and purity of porcelain characterise the contrast of these materials. Acting as an extension of anatomy and visual language, the process of art making becomes a transformative, playful andd sensual act for Orli, whilst simultaneously being a meditative and healing experience.

Mortality, Passion, fragility, desire, fear and beauty are some of the core pillars of Orli’s practice. By working with deeply emotional and challenging themes, the viewer is invited to participate in these experiences empathically, relating, projecting and creating their own personal story. Orli creates a safe space for the viewer to explore their presence within these challenging themes – and perhaps find beauty and solace within them.
