Roger Phillip Johnson
Roger Phillip Johnson is a contemporary stone sculptor, operating from his serene garden studio in the Cotswolds. Roger’s passion for the arts has been a guiding force throughout his life.
Originally hailing from Birmingham, Roger’s creative endeavours led him on a journey through Kent and London, where he studied at The London College of Print. Despite trying his hand at multiple artistic disciplines, it was the allure of stone that truly captured his heart around seven years ago. This newfound love was sparked when he received a gift from his wife – a weekend course under the tutelage of Sebastian Rasch.
Roger’s skill in stone sculpting has since flourished exponentially. Fuelled by a combination of experimentation and an unwavering trust in the artistic process, he continues to push the boundaries of his artistry. Each creation is a testimony to the remarkable dialogue between artist and stone, culminating in pieces that breathe life into abstract forms and evoke emotions that resonate with the soul.
Roger is guided by an extraordinary source of inspiration – the stone itself. Embracing a unique and intuitive approach to his craft, Roger allows the energy of the stone to guide him in a spiritual conversation known only to him. Each creation is a reflection of Roger’s deep intimacy with the stone, resulting in completely unique abstract pieces, often featuring motifs that echo the beauty of the human form.
